When you think about how much the internet has changed our lives, it’s amazing to realise that the very first website ever created is still online today.
Back in 1991, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist working at CERN, launched the first webpage to explain his brand-new invention: the World Wide Web. His goal was simple but revolutionary – to make it easy for people to share and access information across different computers.
The site, hosted on a NeXT computer at CERN, looked nothing like the modern websites we use today. It was plain text, no images, and no flashy design. But it included something we still rely on every day: hyperlinks.

Why Does This Matter?
This little piece of internet history is a great reminder of how far technology has come. From a single text-based page in 1991 to the dynamic, mobile-friendly websites of today – the web has grown into the backbone of modern life.
At Click & Simple, we love celebrating these IT milestones. And while your business website doesn’t need to be as historic as CERN’s, it does need to be functional, clear, and user-friendly.
If you’re based in Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Rutland or the surrounding areas and want a website that works as hard as you do, we’re here to help.
